Our inspiration...

From time to time, budget issues become an unconfortable wall in our way for scientific discoveries. But then, imagination and being not afraid of doing new things, may take us to strange -but interesting- places.

Everybody around would like to hang out with a highly sophisticated -and expensive- fluorescence microscope (Figure 1) for getting pics of biological samples labelled with different kinds of dyes. Even nanostructured materials with the ability of emmiting light when excited under the right wavelenght.

We are looking to be able to transform an inverted Carl Zeiss microscope into a home-made fluorescence microscope by adding the right accesories such as excitation light sources, optical filters and digital cámara for recording -with larger sensitivity than a naked human eye- the image resulting from fluorescence (Figure 2).

This blog will become a virtual log of the problems, thoughts and achievements of the team working into this adventure. Please, say hello to Adriana, Lizette, Andrea, Luis and Enrique, all of them, Nanotechnology and Molecular Engineering students at Universidad de las Americas Puebla.

They, through imagination, perspiration and hard work, will make real what is now just a dream.

Good luck!
